My Crosley Scratches My Vinyls
An old or worn stylus will cause your records to sound bad or sound scratchy.
My crosley scratches my vinyls. Surface noise static pops. It was brand new although shipping ruined it s folder but it had no scratches but skipped terribly. Understand that a stylus begins life shaped like an ellipse rounded and then wears down to a point and falls further down into the groove until it hits bottom. Crosley turntables are built on the cheap and with turntables and turntable equipment you get what you pay for.
If you re in a rush you can quickly fix a warped vinyl record using an oven. To fix a warped vinyl record sandwich the record between 2 heavy objects like a couple large books and let it sit for a few days or weeks until it s not warped anymore. Damage to records can be subtle. No one had ever told me the penny trick before after trying it out it fixed the problem i can finally listen to my demon days album without skips.
A cleaning took care of some of the issues but it always skipped on one side particularly bad. First false information is that crosley eat up chew up and spit out your vinyl far from it. By that time it s way too late. When combined with a ceramic cartridge they are guaranteed to destroy your collection.
Then this is the subreddit for you. What destroys vinyl is lack of care and misuse. The crosley is not able to track the damage it is causing. Is it logical to spend hours days weeks on archiving vinyl on a crosley or 100 00 usb turntable.
Often crosley owners think there is a problem with one of their records rather than the turntable because only certain records will skip. Unfortunately the more records they play the more they ll see skipping especially in louder passages of music. The sound reproduced isn t high quality enough to hear the damage but eventually it will be heard. This probably needs high tracking force which will have an effect on record wear.
3 the big usb question. This is because a worn stylus is getting down to the bottom of the record groove where there is no music. The best new entry level turntables are 200 or more. Keeps my grailz on the crosley vinyls in the crates.
Flipster a lot of newly pressed discs these days are not 100 there are a lot of problems withing skipping etc. Not in my experience. There is a lot of misinformation about crosley products. I don t have any personal experience with the crosley but i suspect it to have a cheap and rather crude spherical needle.
Crosley turntables have a poorly calibrated plastic arm that drags on the surface of vinyl. Do you think a scratched thrift store copy of steve miller band s greatest hits played on a crosley with built in speakers sounds better than a cd ever will.
