The nail guns used today for installing hardwood flooring are made to seat the nail just above the tongue and countersink it at approximately a 45 degree angle so the next board engages fully. To allow room for the 45 degree angle the nail gun must set out in front of the actual board that is being nailed. The best way to fix a peeling floor is to sand it down to bare wood and restart the finishing process.

If you re nailing at a 45 degree angle this would be a total of 1 before you get to the plywood 0 75 x sqrt 2. Secure the starter board to the subfloor with 1 long finishing nails by driving the nails until the heads are just above the board then sink the nails with a nail set.
Since the nails are 1 75 long that s about 0 75 of nail to dig into the plywood subfloor which is great.
